What's your motto?

Writer: Amanda MoreyAmanda Morey

I found my old high school badge the other day and contemplated the motto, "Opera Ad Maiora", which translates to "work for higher endeavour". Wow! what a moment to reflect on! That motto challenged me to think deeply and ask the questions, " how have I served others" and "have I undertaken work that is meaningful in my career?" I am pleased that I can look at the first question and list a bunch of activities that have not only been about working to my full potential, I've also helped others find theirs. Charity and community work, volunteering, coaching and mentoring are all great ways to give back. On the second question I had a bit more contemplation. I work for one of the most ethical companies in the world, that's a big one for me. And in my own business I try to embody the same values. Honesty and integrity are the most important business and leadership traits. I am a passionate advocate for Women in STEM and devote a lot of time to ensuring that women have an equal opportunity to shape the future. I also believe that technology is the only way to solve our worlds complex issues around climate change and sustainability as well as providing connection and education for a more egalitarian society. Who I work for is important and the work I undertake, equally so. I am appreciative that #Nokia is place that allows me to, "work for higher endeavours." I'm also pretty proud of my school motto and how it has shaped my path. What was your school motto and how did it shape your future direction? #thethinkingcoach #technology #sustainability #future #career
